FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
This Sunday’s Gospel focuses on Jesus the Good Shepherd. Jesus said, “I am the gate… Whoever enters through me will be saved.” In other words, Jesus is our point of access to God. We need him as our shepherd, but even more we need him as our gate, our way to God. This is for us as individuals, but we also are a flock. We are responsible for each other too. It is the entire flock that Jesus knows and calls by name. We also need to help the rest of the flock of Jesus the Good Shepherd to make it through the gate.

QUARTA DOMENICA DI PASQUA

LET US PRAY FOR the repose of the soul of Anthony Oliveto, father of Geraldine Oliveto.

"All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. A thief comes only to steal and slaughter and destroy; I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly." - Jn 10:8-10

WHY DO WE “HAVE TO” GO TO MASS?

There are many good reasons to go to Mass. God asks us to set aside one day to refocus physically, mentally, and spiritually. We live in a secular world. Going to Mass helps us to see everything from a different perspective. We begin to see in the depths of our being that God is in charge. We can let go of our own agenda because we know that God will inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us for the week ahead.

When we go to Mass, we are doing what Jesus commanded his followers to do. When we come together at Mass to pray and worship God, we fulfill a deep need inside of us to be in communion with other people. When we listen to the readings, God speaks to us in a special way and we speak to God through our singing and prayers from the depth of our hearts. The Mass brings us together in the Body of Christ, and we become the communion of saints. It is part of the cosmic dimension of the Mass that unites heaven and earth by reaching across time and space.

Being a follower of Jesus is counter-cultural. At every Mass, we have the opportunity to stand up and proclaim what we believe publicly. At every Mass we have the opportunity to review the past week, to be formed, disciplined and consoled. The Mass gives meaning and purpose to our lives. It gives us a sense of destiny and offers the kind of peace that the world cannot give. It helps us develop a sense of wonder and awe. It helps us to see that there is something bigger than ourselves.
