THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT

In today’s Gospel, Jesus’ behavior is one of astonishing, even shocking inclusiveness. He engaged a Samaritan woman -- an ‘enemy’ and a woman – in a serious theological discussion.
Jesus’ example teaches us that it is often easier than we think to approach those we have excluded from our interest and concern. Whenever we build a wall around ourselves that excludes anyone from our charity and concern, Jesus is always on the other side of that wall.

The Samaritan woman said to him, "How can you, a Jew, ask me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?" Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God and who is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him and he would have given you living water." - Jn 4:9-10

POPE BENEDICT XVI’S VISIT TO THE UNITED STATES

The Holy Father will arrive in Washington, DC on the afternoon of April 15, and depart for New York on April 18. The primary public event for the Pope in Washington, DC will be the Papal Mass on April 17 at Nationals Park. The Pope will travel by popemobile on a couple of occasions outside of the Mass, providing an opportunity for more of the faithful to see him while here. More information will be made available as plans are finalized (www.adw.org/papalvisit).

Papal Mass: Time and Transportation
The April 17 Mass will be held at 10:00 AM. Doors to the stadium will open at 6:00 AM for a wonderful pre-Mass program with choirs, videos and more. Participants will need to be in their seats by 9:00 AM. The Pope is scheduled to arrive at the stadium at 9:30 AM and will tour the field by popemobile prior to the Mass. A detailed plan for transportation with specific recommendations and contacts will be provided later this month.

Papal Mass: Tickets
All Mass attendees will need tickets for the 46,000 seats. Tickets are free of charge. All seating will be assigned. A fixed number of tickets for the Papal Mass will be allotted to each parish. We will be informed of the exact number of tickets available to our parish by the end of this month. In the distribution of tickets special consideration will be given to youth and religious education programs, to the members of the parish and financial councils, and to those faithful who have dedicated their time, talent and treasure to the church over the years. Each ticket recipient must attend the Mass – tickets cannot be sold and are not transferable o others.
