FOURTH SUNDAY IN LENT
In the gospel fascinating story of the man born blind healed by Jesus, St.
John wants to open our eyes so that we too can see, moving from our
unbelief to faith in Jesus Christ. When we come to worship we each bring
our own blindness: our readiness to deceive, fears and hatreds too deep to
manage, resentments that eat at us, abuse that makes us cry, doubt that
leads us to wonder if God actually cares about us.
Jesus’ word and sacrament heal us today. We, who were once darkness, now
are light in the Lord.

When Jesus heard that they had thrown him
out, he found him and said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" He
answered and said, "Who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?" Jesus said
to him, "You have seen him and the one speaking with you is he." He said,
"I do believe, Lord," and he worshiped him. - Jn 9:35-38

DCGLOBAL SOLIDARITY
In their recent document,
“Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship,” the Catholic Bishops of
the United States issued a call to political responsibility and applied
Catholic teaching to global solidarity.
“The United States should take a leading role in helping to alleviate
global poverty through substantial increased development aid for the
poorest countries, more equitable trade policies, and continuing efforts
to relieve the crushing burdens of debt and disease…
U.S. policy should promote religious liberty and other basic human rights.
The use of torture must be rejected as fundamentally incompatible with the
dignity of the human person and ultimately counter productive in the
effort to combat terrorism.
The United States should provide political and financial support for
beneficial United Nations programs and reforms, for other international
bodies, and for international law…
Asylum should be afforded to refugees who hold a well-founded fear of
persecution in their homelands…
Our country should be a leader – in collaboration with the international
community – in addressing regional conflicts in the Middle East, the
Balkans, the Congo, Sudan, and West Africa…
Defending human life, building peace, combating poverty and despair, and
protecting freedom and human rights are not only moral imperatives – they
are wise national priorities that will make our nation and world safer.”
