FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
Today the Church invites us to pray for vocations. Consider starting with
a prayer about your own religious vocations. Have you considered religious
life, holy orders, or lay ministry? Living a life of Christian witness
carries with it much responsibility, but when practiced with humility and
compassion it engenders a life of great joy. The Church needs you and your
commitment to serve. Be open to unexpected options, and in the words of
Pope John Paul II, “Trust Christ, because He trusts you.”

"I have other sheep that do not
belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my
voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd. This is why the Father
loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again." - Jn
10:16-17

WHERE’S THE AMERICAN
FATHER?
Being a Catholic dad is
both a great privilege and a big responsibility. Along with their
mothers, they’ve been entrusted to raise their kids to know and love God
and to prepare them for lives as Catholic men and women. Odds are,
they’re good at it, they enjoy it and they all deserve a pat on the back
for the work they do raising their children in the Faith.
The following practices
will make a big difference for a family.
1. Keep Holy the Lord’s
Day: Not only the mother but also the father must be the “keeper of the
faith” by regularly attending Mass on Sunday.
2. Teach Your Children Faith: Faith is learned best by example and it
requires genuine belief.
3. Don’t Forget Forgiveness: By receiving the Sacrament of
Reconciliation (Confession), fathers show that they are accountable and
remind children that mistakes are allowed.
4. Give and Let Give: Let your children see you giving and talk with
them about why you give.
5. Play and Have Fun: Laughter and lightheartedness can enrich our
faith.
6. Get Caught Praying: and pray with your children and teach them that
we are all in an ongoing relationship with God.
7. Be “Mr. Doesn’t-Know-It-All:” “I don’t know” is a legitimate answer
if it is followed by a search for an answer together with your children.
8. Might for Right: To teach integrity to your children, you must have
it.
9. Let It Shine: Remind your kids that – whatever their gifts – they are
created in God’s image, and their gifts are to be celebrated, used and
cherished.
10. Tradition! Sacramentals like the Rosary, Ashes, Novenas, Holy Water.
Etc. gives comfort. Passing on these rituals to your children teaches
them that being Catholic means that they are part of deep-held
traditions and they will never be alone.
