BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST
When Jesus says to the crowds, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever,” we are invited to eat his flesh and drink his blood in the sense that we are to assimilate everything he teaches into our lives. This is the fundamental meaning of eating the Body and Blood of Christ: total union with him in our way of thinking and living.

Maybe our sharing in the Body and Blood of Christ could lead to more almsgiving, fasting, or prayer; or maybe our sharing in this meal could simply lead us to deeper questions about our commitment to the faith we profess.

SS.

While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, and said, "Take it; this is my body." Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many." - Mk 14:22-24

WHEN SOMEONE IS UNEMPLOYED

The number of unemployed people in our country keeps growing every week. Understanding the emotions of shock, confusion, fear, personal inadequacy and isolation when you lose your job is important. But you have to find an anchor that will give you stability – and that anchor is the virtue of hope.

Hope means knowing that no matter what happens, you are not alone. Hope means “knowing” that you are loved. Hope is the “understanding that God has called you to help build his kingdom here on earth. With God’s call came the promise that the Holy Spirit will guide and sustain you in everything that you say and do. Prayer is the vehicle for learning hope. Prayer brings you into a deeper relationship with God. It allows God to enter the empty places inside of you. It allows God to calm you, comfort you, and lead you in ways that you may never have imagined were possible.

As you look for a new job, forming an action plan will structure your day and balance your spiritual, physical, and emotional needs. Also, let everyone know that you are looking for a job. Keep your name and your résumé in constant circulation to your network of friends.

You may not be able to see where you are going, but God always gives you enough light for one step at a time. Trust will carry you through this challenge.

WE WELCOME INTO THE CHURCH Rita Calvo, daughter of Eric and Mariarosaria (Bocca) Calvo; and Cody Lucas Thomas, son of Cliff and Donna (Prosser) Thomas, who were baptized in our church on Sunday, June 7, 2009.

THE HOLY NAME SOCIETY meets today at the 9:00 AM. Mass, followed by a business meeting in the Lower Church Hall. The next meeting will be held on October 11, 2009.

TODAY AT THE 10:30 AM MASS we honor St. Anthony: the Mass is in memory of Maria and Angelo Sciavone, Vincent Capitello, and Loretta Capitello Wilson.
The flowers on the altar and in front of St. Anthony are in memory of Concetta Cotturo, Antonio Cotturo, and Concetta Cotturo Goetzinger, donated by the Goetzinger family.  The blessed St. Anthony bread distributed after each Mass is donated by the Capitello family.

THE NEXT PHASE OF THE ARCHBISHOP’S APPEAL CAMPAIGN has begun June 8 and will conclude on July 31. The 2009 appeal goal for Holy Rosary Church is $15,668.70. As of June 1, 2009, the total amount pledged by our parishioners is $18,162.00, while the total amount received from 76 donors is $10,502.00. To reach our goal for this year, we must collect an additional $5,166.70. If the 262 households that did not contribute donate $20.00 each, Holy Rosary would reach its 2009 goal. Thank you for fulfilling your pledges.

OUR SINCERE THANKS to Biagio Carannante for providing magnificent refreshments on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the Italian Republic celebrated last Sunday at Casa Italiana. We are also very grateful to Maria Marigliano for preparing the program for the Italian National Day and providing the flowers for the altar.

ALTAR SERVERS AND LECTORS ARE NEEDED for all Sunday Masses! Boys and girls (age 8-18) are needed to serve our Sunday Masses. Young adults and adults are needed as Lectors at our Sunday Masses. We will provide training and will accommodate their service to their personal schedule. Interested people please call Fr. Lydio at 202-638-0165. Thank you.

OGGI ALLA MESSA DELLE 10:30 onoriamo Sant’Antonio.
