SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
Union is what Jesus had with his Father and with the Holy Spirit – and what He wants with us. Abiding in Jesus means living in his love, which is radically unselfish, and reaching out to all those more needy than ourselves. The reason for living this way, in Jesus’ love, is so that Jesus’ words may bear fruit: “That my joy may be in you and your joy might be complete.” But Jesus also says that joy comes only after suffering. He did what the Father asked of him, and it led through suffering and death to his resurrection. Jesus points the way and goes before us.
So, we are friends now of Jesus, chosen and loved. He tells us over and over again to love one another. After all, if we are Jesus’ friends now, we want to live up to what he asks and expects of us.

"If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete." - Jn 15:10-11

COPING WITH STRESS

Life is undeniably complicated. And there is so much we cannot control. Into our day-to-day existence come unexpected losses, illnesses, financial difficulties, job problems, relationship challenges – not to mention the actions and emotions of those around us.

In our lives, each of us will face a tide -- and perhaps a tidal wave of life-altering events and small everyday changes. But with our minds and hearts set in the right direction, we can face up to things that are beyond our control.

Avoiding the truth is all too common. Whether the challenge is an abusive parent, an unexpressed passion, or a financial free fall, difficult situations require difficult actions. Often our only choice is to do the tough stuff.

Facing reality means telling the truth to ourselves and to others. It means accepting the fact that we cannot change every situation, and we cannot do everything. As situations get beyond our control, we need to end denial, deal with our fears and insecurities, and seek wise counsel.

Stress is what you feel when you believe that you have lost control over the events in your life. You can help stop stress with these four steps:

• Pray. Ask God for strength and for solutions.
• Surrender. Realize that there are circumstances in life over which we have no control. That mindset will lead to a feeling of peace, instead of frustration.
• Think Positive. Call to mind people and places that encourage good and hope-filled thoughts and feelings as a way to dispel the gloom and doom stress carries into our lives.
• Open Your Mind and Heart: Explore positive alternatives to the stress-inducing situation at hand. Put aside fears. Take action.
