SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
We may not share the paralytic’s bodily helplessness in today’s Gospel,
but all of us share his spiritual weakness, his sinfulness. All of us
commit greater and lesser sins against God and each other. All of us need
God’s forgiveness, the God-given freedom from paralysis of spirit caused
by sin.
For us the true miracle in today’s Gospel is not the physical cure, but
the spiritual healing of forgiveness, God’s healing for every part of us.
Maybe this Eucharist will bring us healing in a way that we have never
dreamed of.

LENT 2009:
AN INVITATION BY OUR
ARCHBISHOP
Grace and Peace to you in Christ.
Sometimes before we even
realize it, we have drifted away from something that once was important
to us. If you have been away from church for some reason, I invite you
to come back again to pray and to attend Mass.
You are an important part
of our family and, like any family, when one person is missing, the
family does not feel complete.
Please accept this
invitation to rediscover the love of Christ and of your Catholic family,
and to fill that longing that you may be feeling for God.
Faithfully in Christ,
Most Rev. Donald W. Wuerl, S.T.D.
Archbishop of Washington
LONGING FOR
SOMETHING?
MAYBE IT’S GOD.
For this Lenten season,
which begins on Ash Wednesday, February 25th, the Archdiocese of
Washington is undertaking the initiative to invite those among the
faithful who have drifted away over the years to rediscover their faith.
The core of the initiative is a pastoral letter by Archbishop Wuerl,
Belonging to God’s Family. During Lent cards will be available that
simply extend a special invitation from him to those who have drifted
away from their faith to come back to church for prayer and Mass.
Parishioners will be invited to share these invitations with family
members, friends, neighbors or colleagues, so our family of faith may
once again be complete.
To support this initiative and reach people, a region-wide media and
advertising campaign will be undertaken, including transit ads, a video,
radio and print ads. The internet will be a large part of this
initiative, with a website, blog focused on answering questions about
the faith and a video invitation that will be posted on You Tube. The
theme of the marketing outreach will be: “Longing for Something? Maybe
It’s God.” The website will be
www.maybe-its-God.org.
