NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Continuing Jesus’
words on the Bread of Life from two Sundays ago, the gospel today
tells us how the Son, the one who “comes down from heaven,” both gives
life and is life himself. Manna was also food that came from God, but
it remained food.
Jesus himself becomes what he offers: eternal
life. He is nourishment that sustains those who believe in him on the
journey from death and despair, as Ezekiel felt, to new life. This
journey is also one of discipleship. In the Eucharist we encounter
this Living Bread, both offering and the One who offers, which
sustains us to the end.

l’Eucarestia lascia scettici anche noi, non è forse perchè cerchiamo,
nella parola e nei gesti liturgici, i nostri luoghi comuni, anzichè
lasciarci attirare e interpellare dal messaggio di Dio? O perchè la
comunione con Dio ci interessa di meno delle chiacchiere che facciamo
con noi stessi?

provides a way to help bring the Gospel message into homes not only in
our community, but also nationally. Your support of the Catholic

parishioners each week and Christ’s message of hope over the airwaves
via our Spanish-language radio program as well as supporting the

THE FEAST OF ST. GABRIEL will be
celebrated on Sunday, August 30, 2009, at the 9:00 AM Mass. Members are
requested to sit in a group in the center pews and receive Holy
Communion in a body. A continental breakfast will follow the Mass.

the Italian Cultural Institute and the Washington Opera invites students
and friends to an evening with Maestro Michele Mariotti at the Italian

ITALIAN AMERICAN GOLF
TOURNAMENT 09/14/09 |

|
The 36th annual Italian American golf tournament will be held at Hampshire
Greens in Ashton, MD on Monday, September 14, 2009. The course has a large
tented deck area outside. Registration, including coffee and donuts will
begin at 8:00 a.m. with a scheduled 9:00 a.m. “shotgun” tee off time. You
do not have to be a great golfer to participate since each group plays in
a “best ball” format. If you do not play golf please still join us as a
volunteer and enjoy the day and our buffet luncheon catered by the Tesoro
Restaurant. Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, longest
drives, closest to the pin, plus 80 raffle prizes. Last year 50/50 prize
yielded over $900.00 to the winner! Proceeds from the golf tournament will
benefit Casa Italiana Cultural Center and the Lido Civic Club’s
