SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Isn’t it wonderful to be wealthy, to be well-fed, and to enjoy the
esteem of the community? And if you don’t fit any of those categories,
wouldn’t be great if you did? Then why do you suppose Jesus lamented
the fate of rich people? Probably because we tend to think that
wealth, abundance, and acceptance are for us. Actually those good
things are entrusted to us to be given to the poor, the hungry, and
the despised.
Lent begins this Wednesday. For 40 days we will
work the blessed side of the Lord’s teaching by praying for others,
feeding the hungry, and giving our money to the poor.
tarda a venire: l’uomo è talmente lento a convertirsi! Il regno si
rifugia nelle classi sociali indifese e nelle situazioni penose.

LET US GO TO CONFESSION THIS LENT 2010
All
parishes in the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., are implementing
The Light is On For You, the Lenten initiative to encourage a
return to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. One evening each week
during Lent – each Wednesday starting February 13th from 6:30 pm to
8:00 pm, the program ensures the Sacrament is readily available,
particularly for the faithful who for whatever reason may have been
reluctant to receive the Sacrament or may have been away from the
Church.
Holy Rosary Church will also be open for confessions.
All are invited to come and see our beautiful Reconciliation Room and
make their confession either face to face or privately behind the
screen. We are grateful to the members of our Holy Name Society for
providing security on each of the five Wednesday evenings.
“Not
only did Jesus give himself up to death on the cross to wash away our
sins,” wrote Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl in his pastoral letter, “but
after the resurrection He extended to the Church the power to apply
the redemption he won on the cross. He blessed His Church with the
extraordinary authority to forgive sin.
This Lent we will once
again recognize the opportunity to experience God’s mercy and
forgiveness. Apart from the Eucharist, there simply is no greater gift
that the Church can give for a people than the gift of reconciliation.
A brochure will be made available, which includes a “how to” guide
for going to confession, including a detachable Act of Contrition.
The deepest spiritual joy each of us can sense is the freedom from
whatever would separate us from God and the restoration of our
friendship with so loving and merciful a Father who sees each of us
with all of the forgiveness and love lavished on the prodigal son.
As we together enter this Lenten season and prepare to celebrate
the joy of Easter, may this be a time of interior renewal that will be
deepened to the extent that we commit ourselves to God’s mercy, to the
reconciliation that we all desire and need.”

FEBRUARY 17 IS ASH
WEDNESDAY: Masses in our church are at 8 AM, 12 noon, and 5
PM. Ashes will be administered at each Mass. Ash Wednesday is a day of
fast and abstinence. All Fridays in Lent are days of abstinence.
EVERYONE IS INVITED TO
THE ANNUAL DAY OF RECOLLECTION: Next Sunday, February 21,
sponsored by the Sodality in conjunction with the Holy Name Society
and Padre Pio Prayer Group. It will begin with a noon Mass, followed
by a light lunch ($5. offering) and then a conference given by Rev.
John Rossi. The day will conclude with a rosary and benediction in
church at 3 PM. For reservations call Yolanda Colandreo at (301)

THE LIGHT IS ON FOR
YOU: “The light is on for you” is an initiative of the
Archdiocese of Washington, in partnership with the Diocese of
Arlington, to allow all Catholics to avail themselves of the sacrament
of reconciliation. Confession is a wonderful opportunity to set aside
our sinful ways and to draw closer to our Lord. Confession will be
held every Wednesday during Lent from 6:30 PM - 8 PM in every Catholic
Church in the Archdiocese of Washington and the Diocese of Arlington.

THE ARCHBISHOP’S APPEAL
2010 HAS BEGUN! This week you are asked to review the
Archbishop’s Appeal brochure and the tabloid that you will receive
with your bulletin today. The Archbishop’s Appeal campaign is a pledge
campaign where you can make a gift, payable over ten months. A
significant gift to the Archbishop’s Appeal will touch the lives of
many others in a very positive way. As you review the work enabled by
your contribution, please reflect on God’s gifts to you. Each pledge
does make a difference because all parishes participate in the
campaign and the gifts of many enable our archdiocese to deliver
needed ministries and services. If you received your pledge form in
the mail, please complete it and mail it back or bring it to Mass next
weekend. For those of you that did not receive a mailing or have not
had time to respond to it, we will conduct our in-pew pledge process
at all Masses next weekend and the following weekend. Thank you for
your prayerful consideration and generous response.

all’Arcidiocesi di provvedere neccessari ministeri e servizi.
generosa risposta.
