THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT
In today’s Gospel, the signs Jesus told John the Baptist’s disciples to
take back to him signify a new age. Jesus’ description of John as the
messenger who will prepare the way has to do with the coming of a new era,
with a prophet ushering in the kingdom.
Running through the gospel as well is the question of a response: Do we
resist the kingdom, or are we one of the blessed “who takes no offense at
me”?
TERZA DOMENICA DI AVVENTO
Nel Vangelo di oggi,Giovvanni Battista è sconcertato davanti a Gesù, che è
un Messia non-violento, che guarisce e dona la vita. Giovanni Battista
annunciava una speranza indefinita. Gesù annuncia il regno che è in mezzo
a noi.
Dio è imprevedibile: vorremmo spingerlo a difendere la nostrra causa, ed
egli si fa avvocato degli altri; attendiamo da lui delle risposte, ed egli
ci pone dei quesiti; vorremmo apparizioni strepitose, e Dio viene a noi
nel silenzio.

of camel's hair and had a leather belt around his waist. His food was
locusts and wild honey. At that time Jerusalem, all Judea, and the whole
region around the Jordan were going out to him and were being baptized by

HOW TO CELEBRATE
CHRISTMAS
The first step in celebrating Christmas
is to properly celebrate the season of Advent. As we pray with the Church,
attend to the Scripture readings of the season, and participate in
whatever symbolic celebrations are meaningful to us, we prepare for the
coming of the Lord in our lives now and in his fullness at the end of
time.
These are the most important and powerful themes we’ll encounter in the
Scriptures, prayers, and celebrations of the Church during the Christmas
season:
- We celebrate the mystery of the
Incarnation: God meeting us, coming to us as one of us, humbly and full
of love.
- We recall the faith-filled reception
of this miraculous good news by Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, and the
Magi.
- We allow ourselves to be formed by all
that this teaches us about gifts and giving. God’s solidarity with all
of us – especially the poor and sinners – the sacredness of human life,
the peace of God promises, and the hope of the fullness of God’s
presence among us.
The medieval origins of the very word we
use to name this feast and season refers to the fundamental spiritual
opportunity that’s here for all of us: “Christ’s Mass.”
At Christmas, we celebrate God’s gift of Jesus to the world. When we
celebrate “Christ’s Mass,” this gift is offered to us through Jesus’ Real
Presence in the Eucharist. This is the moment toward which all of our
preparations – including the celebration of the Sacrament of
Reconciliation, or Confession – have brought us.

WE WELCOME INTO THE CHURCH Kaela
Love Lopez, daughter of Scott and Daniela (Cassano) Lopez, who was
baptized in our Church on December 9, 2007.
AT THIS TIME WE ARE TAKING DONATIONS FOR THE CHRISTMAS FLOWERS
that will adorn our Church during the holydays. Each flower pot costs
$20 and can be donated in memory of a loved one or as an outright
donation. Special envelopes are inside today’s parish Bulletin and in
the back of the Church, and can be placed in the regular collection
basket.
THE OFFERING ENVELOPES FOR 2008 are now available and can be
picked up at the entrance of Casa Italiana. Taking them personally saves
the Church the expense of mailing them. Envelopes are also available for
new users. Extra calendars can also be picked up in the same area. We
have them both in English and in Italian.
THE 2008 CALENDARS HAVE BEEN MAILED OUT to all our parishioners
and friends. Please return your Christmas offering in the enclosed
envelope. Needless to say, the Church depends heavily on this collection
to meet its year-round expenses. Thank You!
THE DATE OF THE CELEBRATION OF CAR-NEVALE 2008 has been changed,
because the original date conflicts with Super Bowl Sunday. The new date
is Sunday, February 10, 2008, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Casa Italiana.
This event includes dinner, dancing, games and prizes for children, and
best costume competition for everyone. Please mark your calendar with
the new date. Look for more information in Voce Italiana in January
2008.

DIAMO IL BENVENUTO NELLA CHIESA
a Kaela Love Lopez, figlia di Scott e Daniela (Cassano) Lopez, che fu
battezzata nella nostra Chiesa Domenica, Dicembre 9, 2007.
FIORI PER NATALE: Si ricevono ora offerte per fiori che
adorneranno la nostra Chiesa durante le Feste Natalizie. Il prezzzo di
ogni vaso è di $20 e può essere donato in memoria di un familiare oppure
semplicemente come una donazione. Apposite buste si trovano dentro il
Bollettino parrocchiale di oggi e all'entrata della Chiesa, e possono
essere messe nella baschetta della colletta regolare.
LE BUSTE PER L'OFFERTA DOMENCALE PER IL 2008 sono adesso
disponibili all'entrata di Casa Italiana. Se le prelevate voi stessi, si
risparmiano le costose spese di spedizione. Ci sono pure scattole di
buste per nuovi utenti. Sempre all'entrata di Casa Italiana, si possono
trovare extra calendari in inglese e in italiano.
I CALENDARI PEL 2008 SONO STATI SPEDITI a tutti i nostri
parrocchiani e amici. Favorite usare la busta allegata per mandare il
vostro dono di Natale. La vostra offerta natalizia è necessaria per
poter andar incontro alle spese di tutto l'anno. Grazie!
LA DATA PER LA FESTA DI CARNEVALE 2008 è stata cambiata perchè
era in conflitto con la domenica della Super Bowl. La nuova data e’
domenica 10 febbraio 2008 dalle ore15 alle ore19 in Casa Italiana. La
festa include pranzo, ballo, giochi e premi per bambini e competizione
per il migliore costume. Ulteriori informazioni si posssono trovare in
