ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
In today’s readings, two clearly guilty people, David and the “sinful woman,” found God’s mercy. Paul’s testimony of being justified not by “the law” but by “faith” retraced his own journey of conversion. David and the woman also found new paths. David repented; the woman loved. Forgiveness is not only something we seek. God has already accomplished it through Christ. All we need to do is accept it – and love.

"You did not anoint my head with oil, but she anointed my feet with ointment. So I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; hence, she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little." - Lk 7:46-47

COMFORT AND CONSOLATION

A Pastoral letter from the Maryland Bishops concerning Care of the Sick and Dying:

The letter, released on June 6, 2007, concerns the end of life and the often difficult decisions that present themselves as we approach the final days of our natural lives. It is intended for all Maryland Catholics, but especially for those individuals and families who care for a loved one facing terminal illness or imminent death, for those of us who are in ministry, and for members of the caring professions.

Comfort & Consolation illuminates Church teachings on life, illness, suffering, dying, death, and resurrection. The Bishops believe it will help Maryland Catholics think through – perhaps unable to make treatment decisions for themselves. It comes with a practical four-page Catholic Declaration on Health Care Decision Making, an advance directive developed in light of Catholic teaching and in accord with Maryland law. The Declaration covers spiritual support, medical care and treatment, nutrition and hydration, pain relieving medication, imminent death from terminal illness, and pregnancy. It also provides a form for use in appointing a health-care agent.

Comfort & Consolation and the Catholic Declaration for Health Care Decision Making provide a solid framework for thinking about your future health-care decision making and the discussions you will want to have with your family and a person you may choose to be your health-care agent should you become incapacitated. The documents also provide sound guidance if you are asked to serve as a health-care agent for a family member or friend. The Declaration is a practical expression of our Catholic faith concerning end-of-life issues and it is in accord with Maryland law on advance directives.

ITALIAN AMERICAN GOLF TOURNAMENT

The 34TH Annual Italian American Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Lido Civic Club of Washington, will be held this year on Monday, September 17, 2007 at Falls Road Golf Course in Potomac, Maryland.  Registration including coffee, donuts and free driving range use will begin at 8:00 AM with a scheduled 9:00 am tee off time.

All are invited to play – this year we hope to attract more women golfers. Remember, you do not have to be a “great” golfer to participate, since each foursome plays a ‘best ball’ format. All players receive a logo golf shirt and other goodies -- plus prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, longest drives, closest to the pin, over 80 raffle prizes, snack at the turn, and a full lunch buffet including Lasagna and Italian sausages. Last year the 50/50 prize was $750 to the winner!

All of the proceeds from the Golf Tournament benefit the Lido Civic Club’s scholarship and charity accounts and the Casa Italiana Cultural Center in Washington, DC.

Golfers should contact the Tournament Committee member Tony Falcone at 301.422.2393.  Holy Rosary volunteers to help at registration should contact Gino Marinucci at 301.942.2266.
