SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
The basic human drive of getting even (“I don’t get mad, I get
even”) contrasts with Jesus’ advocacy of gentleness over violence.
Answering violence with violence creates a chain reaction that escalates
the rate of violence. Jesus is urging us to create a climate in which
retaliation and revenge are rejected and no longer accepted as standards
of behavior. Many saints tested Jesus’ words and proved them realistic.
“It’s not that Christianity has been tried and found wanting;” wrote G.K.
Chesterton, “it’s simply that it hasn’t been tried.”

packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your
lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out
to you." Lk 6:38
THE BENEFITS OF A
CATHOLIC NEWSPAPER
“The Archdiocese of
Washington’s Catholic newspaper, The Catholic Standard, provides readers
with accurate news and information about the Church on the local,
national and universal level in a way that we can be kept up to date on
this important part of our lives. The paper also offers a forum for an
expression of views consistent with the teaching of the Church that
allows for the involvement of readers as together we seek to build up
the body of Christ and share the good news of the Lord.
Among the goals of the paper is to promote for Catholics and other
readers an understanding of the teachings of the Church. Our Catholic
newspaper brings this message into the homes of the faithful throughout
the entire archdiocese.
Other objectives are to foster the faith and unity of the local Church
and to serve as an instrument of evangelization and education. The
Catholic Standard provides opportunities to tell the story of Jesus and
to present his Gospel message in inviting and inspiring language.”
(Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington).
On Mach 3 and 4, 2007, the Catholic Standard will conduct an
archdiocesan wide subscription drive. Our parish will take part in the
drive, and we need your support! Subscription envelopes will be
distributed at all Masses on March 3 and 4. Please consider becoming a
subscriber to our award winning Catholic newspaper – you will help your
family and your parish. Every new subscription to the Catholic Standard
will save our parish $18.50 in 2007. Holy Rosary Church is presently
assessed $2,627 each year for the complimentary copies of the Catholic
Standard found every Sunday at the Church entrance. Don’t miss the
opportunity to become a subscriber and a regular reader of the Catholic
newspaper!
