Gesù venne a salvare noi tutti e niente
TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
In today’s Gospel Jesus talks about bringing fire to the earth. His
fire is the fire of a determined love, the fire of an impassioned
devotion to his mission. He came to save us and nothing could deter him
from that end. In a sense Jesus is single-minded in his approach to life
– he came to save all of us.
Jesus’ fire doesn’t destroy. It purifies. It burns away hypocrisy. It
teaches us to share Jesus’ mission and bring the Good News to everyone.
It forces us to look at our commitment of faith.

"There is a baptism
with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is
accomplished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the
earth? No, I tell you, but rather division." - Lk 12:50-51
OUR OFFERTORY OF TIME,
TALENT AND TREASURE
We at Holy Rosary Church
greatly appreciate the many parishioners who generously give financially
or volunteer their time and talent. Their active participation in the
parish goes far beyond the obligation to give, stated in the Revised
Code of Canon Law, Canon 222: “The Christian faithful are obliged to
assist with the needs of the Church…”
Looking ahead for ways of growing spiritually, we welcome those
parishioners that are willing to express their opinions, especially when
they are critical. We’d particularly appreciate their gifts of time,
talent and money to be used to build the kingdom of God. All
parishioners must come to understand their special call to ministry.
‘Although the specific form of participation in ministry varies
according to the gifts of the Holy Spirit, all who share in this work
are united with one another” -- a unity that must be especially evident
in the relationships between laity and clergy. The effectiveness of such
collaboration is conditioned by our commitment to follow Christ and
sharing our goods with others. “We are absolute owners of nothing;
rather, we are stewards of all we receive and we must use such resources
responsibly in our lifelong work of building up the kingdom of God.”
The traditional method of Catholic giving must be turned upside down,
moving from giving to need to the need to give. It is easier to get
people to pledge for renovation or construction than it is to get them
to give a regular weekly gift – as a percentage of income – for the
operation of the parish and its ministries. Catholics are at the bottom
of the list in terms of their financial support of their church, giving
at about 1.2% of household income. They should increase from 5 to 10
percent. Thus, a family with a household income of $75,000, pledging 5%
of their income to the church, should put over $72 in each Sunday
collection basket. What is your percentage?
In the name and Spirit of Jesus, we commit ourselves to be good stewards
of the gifts entrusted to us, to share our time, our talent, and our
material gifts as an ongoing sign of the Treasure we hold in Jesus.
