ASCENSION OF THE LORD
In today’s first reading from the Acts of the Apostles, Jesus says, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses.” To discover and experience the power Jesus gives us we must turn to private life, the most private segment of our life – our family life. Suppose everyone in the family were to make a pledge for a day to avoid rudeness and unkindness in the words you speak to each other. Your simple efforts would have quite an effect on the peace, happiness and well-being of the family.
Modeling one’s life on that of Jesus doesn’t give us power over others, but it gives one power in the lives of others.

Then he led them out as far as Bethany, raised his hands, and blessed them. As he blessed them he parted from them and was taken up to heaven. They did him homage and then returned to Jerusalem with great joy. - Lk 24:50-52

THANK YOU

Dear Father Tomasi,

It is with gratitude that I write to you and your entire parish community. Holy Rosary Church has not only reached but exceeded your $9,645.00 goal for this year’s Annual Appeal. I have been informed that, as of May 3, 2007, 76 pledges in the amount of $12,600.32 have been received. Thank you!

The generosity of the Holy Rosary Church family significantly helps the Archdiocese of Washington to continue to provide a large number of pastoral, spiritual, educational and social service ministries. Working together through the Appeal, all of us can reach those in need. Your parish’s generosity allows this to happen. I am truly grateful.

In a special way, I would like to recognize the staff, parish Appeal committee and other volunteers who gave so generously of their time and effort to ensure the success of the Appeal. I am particularly grateful to the parishioners who contributed to the campaign. Their generous support is both humbling and encouraging.

My hope is that you will find occasion to express my gratitude to your entire parish community. In expressing my appreciation I also pledge my prayers for you, your ministry and the Holy Rosary Church family.

Faithfully in Christ,

Donald Wuerl
Archbishop of Washington

WE WELCOME INTO THE CHURCH Roberto Thomas Gartner son of Thomas John and Marili (Ulloa) Gartner, who was baptized in our church on May 13, 2007; and Mason Elli Hale son of Roger and Jennifer A. (Deyoe) Hale, who was baptized in our church on May 12, 2007.

THE SECOND COLLECTION TODAY is for the Catholic Relief Services. This collection makes possible the American Catholic Church’s global mission to combat poverty, provide relief and development, assist refugees and immigrants, and advocate for justice and peace in situations of conflict and neglect of basic human rights. Thank you for your generous support.

A WORLD OF THANKS to the Sodality of Mary, who at the Lasagna Dinner/Bazaar raised $13,029.71 for our church.
Sincere thanks to all the wonderful women and their helpers for their successful fund raiser.

REMEMBER YOUR EASTER DUTY!
The second precept of the Church (“You shall confess your sins at least once a year”) ensures preparation for the Eucharist by the reception of the sacrament of reconciliation, which continues baptism’s work of conversion and forgiveness.

The third precept (“You shall humbly receive your Creator in Holy Communion at least during the Easter season”) guarantees as a minimum the reception of the Lord’s Body and Blood in connection with the Pascal feast, the origin and center of the Christian liturgy. The Easter season ends with the conclusion of Vespers on Pentecost Sunday, May 27, 2007.
