TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
“You cannot serve God and wealth,” says Jesus in today’s Gospel. What should Christians do when it comes to money? It’s about what not to do. Don’t make money your god. Money is not the problem; rather, it is serving money to the detriment of your relationship with God and others. Acquire and use your money well, and do not become a slave to it. But that’s not the end of the message. Even those who cook the books, like the steward in the Gospel who bears a resemblance to the crooked corporate leaders of today, can be a positive example. If only God had disciples as shrewd, detail-oriented, and dedicated when it comes to the true riches of the kingdom as with the wealth of this age!

"The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones; and the person who is dishonest in very small matters is also dishonest in great ones." - Lk 16:10

THANK YOU!

After five weeks restoration marathon by the D’Ambrosio Ecclesiastical Art Studios, Inc., on the second Sunday of August, Holy Rosary Church reopened its doors to the parishioners who proudly greeted the restoration as splendid and “elegante”.

The work of restoration included painting and decorating of the Church interior, the removal of the asbestos tile floor, a new reconciliation room, a new marble ambo, reconstruction of six new pews, a new marble platform for the main Altar, repairing and polishing the stained glass windows and all mosaic Stations of the Cross, polishing the Sanctuary Lamp and the four Evangelists on the Main Pulpit, rewiring the entire Church, installing a new sound system, redoing all windows by removing the Plexiglas, painting wooden frames and installing lexan.

We are deeply grateful to all our parishioners and friends who contributed to the expenses of our Church’s restoration and whose names are printed in the current issue of Voce Italiana.

We are equally grateful to our parishioners who for years have been contributing to the monthly second collection for the Renovation Fund.

Now that the physical building of our Church has been restored to its original splendor, we are challenged to rebuild our Church spiritually and become the warm Christian community we have been called to be at baptism. Changes, crises, scandals, secularization, and clash of egos must not suffocate our faith in the lordship of Jesus, the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and unfailing love of God for us and our love for one another.

We must stop trying to please everybody, stop being paralyzed by fear of criticism, stop caring about who gets the credit and focus only on getting the job done. And with genuine passion and even joy, we continue to give our best efforts, even when they appear fruitless. We detach ourselves from results, and ask only if we are being faithful to the Gospel vision Jesus left us.

Thank you again for your support and with St. Paul I pray “that your love may more and more abound so that you may learn to value the things that really matter.”

Fr. Lydio

WE WELCOME INTO THE CHURCH Nicole Goff, daughter of Michael Selley and Merle Bam, who was baptized in our Church on September 15, 2007; and Sofia De Nitti, daughter of Roderico and Sara (Jonkers) De Nitti; and Sofia Marie Despres, daughter of Marc Raymond and Lisa Marie (Baccala) Despres, who were baptized in our Church on September 16, 2007.

THE SECOND COLLECTION NEXT SUNDAY is for the Pastoral Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa. The Church in Africa is the fastest growing part of the Universal Church and, at the same time, the neediest part of our family of faith. In the past 25 years, the number of Catholics in Africa has increased from 55 million to 144 million and the number of priests, by 73 percent. Over 70 percent of Africans live on less than $2 per day and this poverty cripples the ability of the Local Church to raise sufficient funds for pastoral needs from the faithful. Our financial contributions help support pastoral outreach, catechetical programs, Catholic schools, programs of evangelization, education of seminarians and the continuing education of the clergy. Thank you for your kind consideration of the urgent needs and the great promise of the Church in Africa.

OUR RELIGION CLASSES will begin in October. Children who will be 7 years old next year and can receive Holy Communion and youngsters, 12 and over who wish to receive Confirmation, are encouraged to register. Parents can pick up registration forms in back of church.

ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2007 is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, the patroness of our church. The Archbishop of Washington, His Excellency, Donald Wuerl, will celebrate the 10:30 Italian Mass, bless the newly restored church and meet with the Italian community of the greater Washington D.C. area. All are invited to attend the Mass and the reception in Casa Italiana following the Mass.
