TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
In today’s Gospel parable of the rich man and Lazarus, we are reminded
that we have all seen him. He is our neighbor – a poor and needy world
present among us.
Because of the example and life of Jesus himself, we as a church give
ourselves away in mission and service to others. God’s word calls us to
a giving life, calls us to be rich in good works, generous in mercy, and
ready to share. We pray and work for God’s kingdom to come on earth as
it is in heaven now. We give so that Lazarus can know the grace and
mercy of God given for us and for the whole world.

"Abraham replied, 'My child, remember that you received what was good
during your lifetime while Lazarus likewise received what was bad; but
now he is comforted here, whereas you are tormented.'" - Lk 16:25
LOOKING FOR THE PARISH OF THE FUTURE
In
answering the question about what the parish of the future is going to
look like, Dublin Archbishop Diarmuid Martin said that “parishes must be
open to experiment and welcome experiences which may be unfamiliar.” He
explained that renewal in the church “is never just a process about
committees and working groups. It involves a community, entering into
the mystery of the Word made flesh in order to see how we can sanctify
the world around us.”
We will be able to accomplish this as a community of faith, a community
of worship, a community of service, and a community of mission.
We must constantly nourish our faith. “Faith formation must become more
and more central in the work of our parishes and communities: faith
formation for persons of all ages and backgrounds, to enable them to
deepen their knowledge of the faith, to bring them to maturity in the
dialogue between faith and life, to renew that freshness and enthusiasm
about the faith and their commitment and abandonment to Jesus which must
be the distinguishing mark of the believer.” The catechetical program
for people of all ages is the first priority at Holy Rosary Church,
together with liturgical and prayer initiatives.
“The celebration of the sacraments and the Eucharist is the constitutive
element of being church. The quality of our parish liturgies is vital…
Liturgy requires beauty and a sense of the mystery we celebrate.”
“To achieve that, our worshipping community must be a prayerful
community, a community where personal prayer and prayer in common will
be the hallmarks of those who are the followers of Jesus. We need many
new prayer initiatives.” Under the leadership of the Sodality of Mary,
our tradition of reciting the Rosary before the 9:00 am Mass on Sunday
will be continued and expanded. The beautiful new statue of our Lady of
the Rosary will be a constant maternal reminder “to do whatever Jesus
tells us to do.”
