FOURTEENTH SUNDYA IN ORDINARY TIME
Like the seventy-two disciples being sent out to spread the Good
News, we too are being sent out every day of our lives, regardless of
age or gender or station in life. What would Jesus do? It is a good
question to ask ourselves in our daily life. By our daily example we
teach others to pardon each other, to see Christ in others, to help the
needy as we can. For all of this we need Jesus’ Spirit. The Eucharist is
where we come for an increase of Jesus’ Spirit within us so that He can
send us out again to preach and teach his Good News.

He said to them, "The
harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the
harvest to send out laborers for his harvest. Go on your way; behold, I am
sending you like lambs among wolves." - Lk 10:2-3
HOLY ROSARY CHURCH RESTORATION
2007
Since 1913, when it was
established, Holy Rosary Church has been the main source of religious and
social support for the Italian community of the Greater Washington Area.
While other parish facilities have absorbed the attention and the
resources of the community, Holy Rosary Church has undergone only minor
repairs. Now, in order to preserve the integrity of its original structure
and design, Holy Rosary Church needs a complete restoration of its
interior.
The work of restoration, done by D’Ambrosio Ecclesiastical Art Studios of
New York for the estimated cost of $425,000, will begin on Monday, July 9,
2007, and should be completed around August 17, 2007. Such restoration
includes completely rewiring the entire Church; upgrading the sound system
in the Church; washing the entire interior of the Church; inspecting all
plaster; painting all surfaces and ceiling; restoring all murals;
gold-leafing all areas, columns and organ pipes; cleaning, polishing and
pointing all marble; restoring all statues; polishing the mosaic stations
of the cross and stained glass windows; refurbishing (NOT replacing) the
pews; removing the asbestos floor tiles and refinishing the terrazzo
floor; constructing a new marble ambo for lectors and a new marble
platform for the main altar and a marble pedestal for the statue of St,
John; polishing the existing sanctuary lamp to original luster;
introducing a new reconciliation room; all stairwells, sacristies and
entrances to receive same treatment as the Church.
During this period of five weeks Mass will be celebrated in Casa Italiana,
and we will gather in the Lower Church Hall for our social hour.
We apologize for any inconvenience due to the restoration work. Many
thanks for your generosity, patience and understanding.
