Baptism

Baptism, the gateway to the sacraments and necessary for salvation by actual reception or at least by desire, is validly conferred only by a washing of true water with the proper form of words. Through baptism men and women are freed from sin, are reborn as children of God, and, configured to Christ by an indelible character, are incorporated into the Church.

The registration of a child to receive the sacrament of Baptism at Holy Rosary Church should be made at least a month before the ceremony is to take place. You can register by calling the office (202-638-0165) or writing an email (casaitaldc@gmail.com). A copy of the birth certificate of the child should also be provided. Celebrations are on Saturday or Sunday by appointment. In special cases ceremonies could be arranged also during the week. Parents and God parents are required to participate in one conference always held at the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm in church. GODPARENTS: To qualify as a godparent for the sacrament of Baptism, a person must be a practicing Catholic in good standing, be at least 16 years of age and have received the sacrament of Confirmation. For Baptism only one Godparent is necessary. If there are two, they must be one man and one woman. Parents cannot be the godparents of their child. PEOPLE OF OTHER RELIGIONS are always welcomed to all our celebrations, but they cannot be godparents. During the baptism celebration there is the profession of faith and to the question: “Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church . . .” they would have to answer “No.” So, let us not put them in an awkward position.
