Confirmation

The sacrament of confirmation strengthens the baptized and obliges them more firmly to be witnesses of Christ by word and deed and to spread and defend the faith. It imprints a character, enriches by the gift of the Holy Spirit the baptized continuing on the path of Christian initiation, and binds them more perfectly to the Church.

The program of preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation for children in 7th grade will start toward the middle of September and end in May. The program will be taught on Sunday morning between 11:00 am and 11:55 am. To register, we need a copy of the baptism certificate. For the registration form, please contact the parish office ((202-638-0165). SPONSOR: to qualify as a sponsor for the sacrament of Confirmation, a person must be a practicing Catholic in good standing, be at least 16 years of age, and have received the sacrament of Confirmation. For Confirmation the sponsor could be a man or a woman. Parents cannot be the sponsors of their child. PEOPLE OF OTHER RELIGIONS are always welcomed to all our celebrations, but they cannot be sponsors. During the Confirmation celebration there is the profession of faith and to the question: “Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church . . . they would have to answer “No.” So, let us not put them in an awkward position.
